Working Area
Initially the programme has been concentrating its activities in areas around the Mental Hospital in Patan District.
Based upon its experiences and the availability of funds, the programme will be gradually expanded to other areas within Kathmandu valley. The long term goal is to extend services throughout the country.

Registered as an NGO with the GoN in April 2009 (2065/066 BS) (DAO- 2867/155, SWC 27206)

CN started in 2003 as an informal group. In 2005, CN functioned as a project under the St. Xavier’s Social Service Center.

Carried out a rapid assessment of mental distressed homeless in Kathmandu valley 2004

Conducted a referral study on institutions working in the support of Mental Heath in 2005. Explored the existing and potential networks.

MOU signed with Basic Needs UK, an INGO
working on Mental Health and Development, in 2006. -
Collaboration with the Social Work Department at St. Xavier’s College was initiated in 2004. 2 Masters level students were placed as trainees at CN.

Established a working relationship with the Mental Health Hospital in Patan.

Coordinated network meetings with other NGOs, GoN and WHO.
Chhahari literally means Shade or Shelter. This Nepali expression highlights the importance of shelter being provided wherever a person may be rather than at a static point.
